Abstract:
The meaning of culture coincides with the meaning of writing and writing refers to reading. Both of them are "battles" against forgetting. We win the battle against forgetting only if we can see, with the help of signs and symbols the possibility which has once been "attained" but is now threatened by oblivion. This is a "possibility of life" which is stored in books as a possibility of memory and of continuation through new "readings" and "writings" of the same symbolic book.
