Press and Censorship in Bessarabia: 19th and the Beginning of the 20th Century

The article presents the situation of periodical publication in Bessarabia, beginning with its territorial takeover in 1812 by the Russian Empire, when it was gradually forced into a social-political integration or assimilation. The author presents all the attempts to found a periodical on the territory of Bessarabia, based on historical evidence and archival research, starting with the first Imperial publication in 1854 of a Governmental Bulletin. Romanian publications in Bessarabia had a new chance of existence only at the beginning of the 20^thcentury, after the Revolution from 1905, when an impressive number of new publications left the press.
